The 2007 lamb drop has been highly anticipated at Letts as we have sought to really benchmark the flock and sample genetics from a wide range of sources in order to find out where the best carcase quality genetics are within the Suffolk breed. The sires represented have a range of growth for PWWT of -2 to + 14 for PEMD of -1.7 to +2.3 and YFAT of -3 to +0.6. In addition we will have over 350 lambs hit the ground in genetically linked contemporary groups. This coupled with the fact that sires represented have over 1000 lambs already recorded on Lambplan will enable good genetic linkage to be achieved. When these lambs are IMF scanned it will enable the identification of which sire lines are best focussed on in order to achieve our meat quality breeding goals.
In short a lot rests on the shoulders of our 2007 drop!
And here they are ......some 45 day old (yes that's right) ET lambs sired by Bowen Harry and Gordon (sons of Miekelson Mighty Man) These boys were weaned off their Merino mums at 60 days averaging 30.5kg (410g per day from birth) topping at 40.5kg - an ADG of 560g from birth
We have created a page for each of our 4 main groups to follow their progress
